Alternative Futures

The spirit of art facilitates new and different visions of Iraq. Protest art from October 2019 created a unique space for Iraqis, including protestors and artists, to dream of a different Iraq to the one that had become a reality. Art allowed people to contest the past and the present, and envision alternative futures for the country, based on their own interests, desires and ambitions. 

In Iraqi Protest Art we saw a large volume of artwork that represented alternative futures based on non-sectarianism, civic and secular life, and fair and equitable representation. The body of artwork, perhaps more than any other field, represents these alternative visions of Iraq.
